Alfred Lord Tennyson - greatest poet of the Victorian age
TopFoto - the imagery of nearly everything

Alfred Lord Tennyson was born 200 years ago (6 August 1809)
into a large, impoverished family with a history of mental illness.

He went on to become the foremost poet of the Victorian age
and succeeded Wordsworth as Poet Laureate.

We hope you enjoy the gallery and in the words of Tennyson himself
(the most quoted English poet after Shakespeare):

“Forward, forward let us range, Let the great world spin for ever down the ringing grooves of change”.
