The Vanishing of the Bees
TopFoto - the imagery of nearly everything

What has been causing the mysterious deaths of honey bees all over the world in the last five years?

Vanishing of the Bees, a new film which will be released in Britain next month, claims the cause is
the use of a new generation of pesticides that weakens the bees and makes them more
susceptible to other diseases.  Narrated by the British actress Emilia Fox,
the 90-minute film tells the story of what has become known as colony collapse disorder (CCD).

Tiny they may be but about 1/3 of our food depends on pollination by bees and to
illustrate the increasing focus on food security and sustainability,
TopFoto presents a gallery of bees and beekeepers.

PS For those who want to read up, our editor recommends the first book on CCD,
Spring Without Bees, written by Michael Schacker in 2008
