1945: World War 2. the liberation of Denmark by the Allies . Exactly at. 11:30 am , Saturday ,  12th May , the Allied commander ,  Field Marshal Montgomery,  set foot on Danish soil. On his journey from the airport he received a hero 's welcome standing up in the back of the King's car . This picture became a symbol of liberation, and later a stamp. 1940: World War II  - The German occupation of Denmark . <br>In the early hours of the 9th April , 1940 , German<br>aircraft flew low over Copenhagen and dropped the notorious OPROP! leaflets calling for the Danes to accept occupation peacefully . It claimed that Germany had occupied Denmark and Norway to protect them from invasion from Great Britain and France . The leaflets were signed by the German Commander .

May 1980 - Unrest in the Nørrebro (an area in Copenhagen ) i.f.m. clearing away &quotByggeren"<br>Nørrebrogade is known as the site of many riots over the years. During the 1980s it often provided the settings for violent clashes between riot police and militant squatters . The battles were of a vicious nature often involving molotov-cocktails and pipe bombs being used by the squatters as well as batons tear gas and firearms used by the police.
