1949<br>Roger Bannister of Oxford wins the mile run in the tenth annual international track and field meet at Princeton NJ - June 11th.  Finishing 30 yards ahead of Ronald A Witterich (background) of Princeton.  Bannister was clocked at 4:11.1 seconds  the second fastest clocking in the US this year.  The meet was between teams representing Princeton-Cornell and Oxford-Cambridge.  1949.

1959<br>Eight days locked in a 98 degree 'Hot Box' with regular climbs up and down steps to the ticking of a metronome, that was the special fatigue duty that four soldiers volunteered for. This experiment to test men's reactions to tropical heat, was caried out in a London basement by army doctor Captain Roger Bannister.
