0469879 - These are some of the 284 islanders of the volcano-torn South Atlantic island of Tristan da Cunha, who were fleeing from their homes to Cape Town on their first stage of a journey to their new life. The volcano erupted on October 10th and for many of the islanders it was a glimpse of a new world. It has been suggested that they will occupy another island off the coast of north Scotland - 21st October 1961
