hip0031412 - Agricultural implements, 19th century. Bell's reaping machine, McCormick's American reaping machine, and Hussey's American reaping machine. The reaper designed by Patrick Bell (1799-1869) was the first practical mechanical reaper and incorporated several features that are still seen on modern combine harvesters. Cyrus McCormick patented a modern mechanical reaper in 1834. Obed Hussey (1792-1860) also designed a version of the reaper.
