hip0012099 - Chingis Khan, 1397-1398. Chingis (Ghengis) Khan on the pulpit in the minbar at Bukhara where the people were assembled for the festival prayers, calling himself the scourge of God. He said he was sent to punish the nation for its sins. A miniature painting illustrating a scene from the Shahanshahnama, part of a fourteenth century Persian collection of epic poems.
